As the season gets underway, it’s a great time to focus on strengthening the bond between you and your horse — both in and out of the saddle.
Every horse is different. Some are naturally confident, while others need more reassurance. Paying attention to your horse’s behaviour, body language and reactions helps you understand what they’re feeling and how best to support them. The better you know your horse, the stronger your partnership will become.
Horses thrive on consistency. Regular routines around feeding, handling and training help your horse feel secure and settled. Consistent cues and clear expectations under saddle also reduce confusion and build trust over time.
Good partnerships start on the ground. Simple groundwork exercises — such as leading, yielding to pressure, standing quietly and moving calmly through new environments — teach respect and communication. These skills translate directly to better rides and more confident horses.
