Celebrating 80 years of Pony Club NSW in 2026!
This month we are going to shine the spotlight on Elsie Ware from Londonderry Pony Club, Zone 19, as our Rider Profile of the Month winner!
At just 11 years old, Elsie has already built an impressive riding journey across multiple disciplines with her horses Lonesome Cherokee and Last Nights Oak.
Elsie has been riding horses for nine years and has recently achieved some fantastic results, including 2nd place in the Rider in Action Under 13 years at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, 3rd place in the Team of Four at Sydney Royal, and being named 2025 Londonderry Pony Club Gymkhana Overall Champion. She has also qualified for the 2026 Interschool Championships at SIEC, placed 3rd in Youth Cutting at the 2025 NSW Cutting Futurity Show, and competed at the 2025 State Mounted Games and Team Sporting Championships.
Elsie’s all-time favourite horse is her black Stock Horse mare, Kahluas Abbey. Standing at 15hh with a small white blaze, Abbey is a very special mare who Elsie has been riding since she was six years old. Elsie says Abbey has plenty of attitude and only really likes her riding her! She can jump, do sporting, a little dressage, and even work a cow. Abbey is currently in foal, so Elsie is having a short break from riding her.
One of Elsie’s most memorable riding moments was winning Champion Transition Rider on Abbey at Hawkesbury Show when she was seven years old. Another unforgettable experience was getting the opportunity to ride a champion cutting horse stallion in America earlier this year.
When Elsie grows up, she would love to become a horse trainer. She is inspired by Dave Cameron, who she says is not only a great showjumper but also a really nice person.
Away from the saddle, Elsie enjoys making riding videos, loves sushi, and says her favourite movie is Ride Like A Girl. No surprises here — her favourite animal is a horse!
